Prairie Lakes Education Center

PLEC Purpose and Philosophy

Prairie Lakes Education Center provides a therapeutic setting with a focus on the student and his/her family.  The center provides services to students with emotional and behavioral needs in a highly effective setting with both therapeutic and academic components.

PLEC Goals

  • Identify the major stressors in the student’s life
  • Develop a treatment plan to address the stressors
  • Provide family therapy and support
  • Reintegrate the student back into his/her home school

PLEC Academic

Academic instruction is based upon a curriculum designed to meet student needs as addressed in their Individual Education Plan. Educational material is presented to students in small group instruction, one-to-one instruction and through independent study. Students are encouraged to practice good study habits, appropriate social skills, and utilize coping strategies to experience success. The goal of the program is to reintegrate the student back in to his/her home school as they demonstrate the ability to be successful. The reintegration process is individually planned for each student.

PLEC Hours

Prairie Lakes Education Center hours for students are from 8:15a.m. To 3:00p.m.  The learning center follows the Perham/Dent school calendar. An extended six week summer program is also available for students.

PLEC Therapeutic

Therapy is a main focus at Prairie Lakes Education Center. Students receive therapy both individually and through group interaction. Mental health professionals provide the therapy on a daily basis for each student.  Family therapy is also a strong component of the Prairie Lakes Education program. Families are expected to participate in family therapy and provided the support to do so.
